German submarines for Pakistan
Pakistan plans to buy German-made submarines for the first time, but is still technologically behind its nuclear rival India. Pakistan will purchase three Type 214 German submarines under deal worth more than $1 billion (773.7 million euros). The German shipbuilding company Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW) will construct the diesel-electric submarines in a shipyard in Pakistan`s southern port city of Karachi.

Phalanx on HEMTT
Raytheon and Oshkosh have teamed up to build a prototype defensive system by placing a rapid-fire, area-defense Phalanx gun on the back of a diesel-electric, 14-ton Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT). The diesel-electric HEMTT saves 20 percent more fuel; a diesel engine drives a generator which then drives electric drive motors to propel the vehicle.

Archer Artillery System
The Archer artillery system will soon be in service. The government has made a decision on continued development and procurement of this modified Howitzer 77B. The decision is seen as an expression of Sweden’s will to strengthen its artillery capability, and a sign of Sweden’s commitment to intensified cooperation with Norway on national security.

Freedom to conduct sea trials
The Littoral Combat Ship Freedom put to sea for the first time, marking the beginning of Builder’s Sea Trials for the first-in-class coastal surface combatant. The agile 378-foot Freedom, designed and built by a Lockheed Martin is conducting Builder’s Sea Trials in Lake Michigan. The trials – which are a coordinated effort between the U.S. Navy and the Lockheed Martin team – will include operational testing of the vessel’s propulsion, communications, navigation and mission systems, as well as all related support systems.

UH-72A Lakota helicopter for the National Guard
The National Guard has received the new light utility UH-72A Lakota helicopter. They will be used for command and control missions such as aerial reconnaissance, counter-drug operations, weapons of mass destruction, and hurricane emergencies.
