“Hey, aren`t you the tractor driver doing a world tour?” Mathias Lause, trained agricultural machinery mechanic is often asked upon his continuous trip. The adventurer, who is travelling around the world with his CLAAS tractor, has now reached the American continent.
Mathias Lause aged 25 set off from Harsewinkel in January on his adventure into the great wide world. Along the way he has visited CLAAS factories in Beelen, Paderborn, Metz and Bad Saulgau. He has also visited the tractor factory in Le Mans, the birthplace of the ARES, and the SIMA agricultural trade fair in Paris. Since then Matthias Lause and his tractor have travelled several thousand kilometres and have seen much of the world – rice fields in Italy, olive and wine growing in Spain, French and Belgian landscapes.
Matthias Lause has even had to endure freezing temperatures of minus 15 degrees in the Bavarian Alps, but this was soon forgotten after the 35 degree heat in Mexico"s Veracruz. After Mexico he headed north to the vast expanse of the south western states of America. Farming occasionally reaches an impressive scale here. “Many ranches have 10,000 cows,” explains Matthias Lause, “and the greenhouses are enormous.” One of the most impressive milestones of the trip was without doubt the Grand Canyon with its amazing views, which went some way to compensating for all the pain and travel time.
After the USA, Matthias Lause still has a long way to go: He will experience the winter in Australia, visit tea houses in Malaysia and experience the South African wildlife close up. Matthias Lause will also be visiting Lesotho, which is the most important country on the trip. This is where the aid organisation CARE will be using the money donated as part of the Tractor World Tour to create gardens for schools.
