Hyundai will sell its Veracruz large SUV in Europe starting in October 2008. In Europe, the Veracruz will be sold with a 2.2 turbo-diesel engine V-6 for 45,000 euros under the name of IX 55, following the South Korean carmaker`s decision to change the nomenclature of the entire range of models.

Rafael Aguillo, deputy director of marketing for Hyundai Motor Europe, said "the brand`s largest crossover will be sold in Europe to boost our image and that`s why we are forecasting sales of only 5,000 units."

In Europe, the Veracruz will target potential buyers of Volkswagen Touareg. In addition to the Veracruz, next year Hyundai will launch a new Atos i10, a new Getz i20, a station wagon version of the i30 and a facelift of the Sonata that will be called i40. "With all of the launches scheduled for next year, we aim to sell 400,000 units, up from 350,000 units that we plan to sell this year," Aguillo said.
