Volkswagen has shown its second-generation Golf Plus at the 2008 Bologna Auto Show, although it held off on detailing pricing, engines or specifications for the family-minded vehicle.
One gas engine will be a 1.4-liter, 120-horsepower TSI engine. TDI engines with outputs between 89 and 138 hp will be available as well. Both gasoline and diesel models are linked to either a five- or six-speed manual or a six- or seven-speed DSG gearbox. Exterior changes include a slightly lower profile than the outgoing model and redesigned roof rails. New wheel options include 18-inch "Bilbao" alloy wheels from Volkswagen Individual.
The Golf Plus will also get the automaker's ParkAssist for the first time. This system can operate the steering automatically during reverse parallel-parking maneuvers. A rearview camera is optional. The Golf Plus launches in Europe in the spring.
