Volvo goes to waste

.

In response to the recent growth of preliminary sorting yards, where waste material such as wood, steel, paper and general waste is segregated, Volvo Construction Equipment has launched the EW160B wheeled excavator for use in congested recycling yards where manoeuvrability is vital.

The company said sorting yards are often in urban or even inner-city locations and are usually small and densely filled and quite often indoors, so the EW160B was designed to offer a tight turning circle and small swing radius – and yet has a high level of stability and an elevated cab to offer a commanding view of the work area.

"A need developed for a machine that could offer high performance, be stable and yet small enough to manoeuvre easily in confined spaces," the company said.

The maximum working range of the excavators on ground level is about 8.2m with a maximum height of 9m with a two-piece boom and material handling arm. Its short swing radius of 2150mm allows the machine to fit in tight work spaces.

The EW160B"s lifting capacity is 2.9t at full reach, excluding the attachment with a material handling arm.

Volvo CE said it is envisaged that sales of the EW160B would initially come from Europe where waste legislation is compelling a more efficient approach to recycling.
