Import in Russia tends to grow

Export of farming machinery in Russia continues to growExport of farming machinery in Russia continues to grow.

According to Russia`s Soyuzagromash press service, in January-August 6,525 combines have been produced, i.e. 97.9% to figures of the same period of 2005 (6,644 units).

In January-August 2006 Russia produced 7,042 tractors. It is 104.2% of January-August 2005 (6,755 units).

During first eight months of 2006, Russian agricultural machinery manufacturers produced:

- 657 ploughs (54.5% of the same period of 2005);

- 4,602 tractor hoes (76.6%);

- 3,811 planting machines (77.4%);

- 1,782 grass-mowing machines (105.3%).

In January-August 2006 Russia exported 1,447 combines, 1,201 tractors and 10,357 various farming adaptors. Total cost of all agricultural equipment is $153.7 mln, i.e. 73% of figures registered at the same period of 2005 ($211.4 mln). Kazakhstan and Ukraine are main purchasers of Russian farming machinery (53.1% and 22.9% in export structure respectively).

In January-August of 2006, 2,188 combines were imported in Russia with total cost of $244.1 mln (against $210.7 mln in last year), 4,048 agricultural tractors with cost of $177.6 (against $103.1 mln), farming adaptors totaling $219.1 mln (against 136.3 mln), other agricultural equipment for the cost of $242 mln (against 177.1 mln), spare parts totaling $75.6 (against $42.5 mln).

Generally, import of agricultural equipment grew in this period by 43% and is registered at the level of $958.5 mln. The leading importer is Germany (31.8%), followed by US (17.8%).
