Bridgestone to open a plant in Russia

Bridgestone to open a plant in RussiaBridgestone to open a plant in Russia.

Japanese Tyre maker Bridgestone, world`s leading manufacturer of automotive tyres, intends to established a plant in Russia.

According to Japanese press, if the company manages to quickly find a site for facility and guarantee the acquisition of qualified personnel, commencement of industrial production will be possible by 2010.

In Russia it will be the first Japanese plant to manufacture tyres. The project is a part of Bridgestone`s plan to considerably expand national and foreign investments in response to similar actions from its major rival – France`s Michelin, the second tyre producer in the world.

According to Bridgestone`s plans, total investments should reach $2.1 bln by 2006-2008. The company says that due to growth of vehicle markets in China, Russia, India, Brazil and other countries with so-called "transitional economies", and due to expansion of mining industry, average annual global demand for tyres will grow by 3-4%.
