The Bauma China 2006 exhibition has been a major success, with records set for both attendance figures and exhibitor numbers. Despite poor weather, over 80,000 visitors flocked to the Shanghai-based show, an increase of 60% over the previous event. It was clear to many even within the first few minutes that the show opened on the first day that attendance figures would be high.
The 150,000 m2 of exhibition space was itself an increase of nearly 50% and even so, some companies were not able to exhibit as the site was fully booked.
There were 1,088 exhibitors, an increased of 47% and these companies came from 30 countries including Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Spain, South Korea, the UK and the US. Meanwhile a high proportion of attendees, some 20%, came from outside China in 2004, further reflecting the high international flavour of the event. Attendees came from neighbouring countries such as India and from further afield in Europe as well. “Bauma China is not only a Chinese fair but the fair for the Asia Pacific region,” according to Dr Christof Kemmann, president of the German VDMA construction equipment association, which has been closely involved with the show.
