Komatsu introduces a new plant

Komatsu introduces a new plantKomatsu introduces a new plant.

Komatsu Ltd. has just completed the construction of its new Ibaraki Plant for wheeled large equipment. Against the backdrop of expanding development of natural resources, such as iron ore, coal and copper, around the world, Komatsu anticipates that orders for its large equipment for mining use will remain at a high level into the future.

To meet accelerating growth in demand, Komatsu decided to build a new plant in Japan and started construction in April last year. For the Komatsu Group, this is the first new plant to start up in Japan in 13 years.

The new plant will produce large dump trucks and wheel loaders, over 90% of which will be exported to North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa, Latin America and other regions of the world.

The new plant features a high degree of flexibility for changes in the volume of production and product specifications. Furthermore, by using the adjacent Port of Hitachinaka, Komatsu will be better positioned than before to ship products which are near completion, and will thus be able to further improve product quality and shorten delivery time.

Besides the Komatsu plant, Ibaraki is also a home for Kato truck-based crane plant with largest production capacity in the world.
