Kato Dissolves Euro Rigo
Japanese crane manufacturer Kato has dissolved its joint venture with Italian mobile crane maker Euro Rigo, blaming the effect of the subprime lending crisis`s impact on the European market. The business was originally a joint venture between Kato and Rigo, with Kato owning 80 percent of the equity.

JLG Industries is to rebrand its rear-pivot steer Gradall telehandlers under the JLG name by the end of the year. Sennebogen New Production Facility
German waste handler and crane manufacturer Sennebogen officially opened its new Euro 30 million (US$40 million) production facility in its home town of Straubing, attended by more than 3,500 dealers and customers from around the world. The facility covers an area of 125,000m2 (1,345,500 ft2)), with 15,000 m2 (160,000 ft2) being occupied by a new assembly hall that can accommodate the assembly of machines weighing up to 300 tones.

New Holland Predicts Growth in Sales
New Holland expects to increase sales by more than 20% this year despite a 12% fall in plant sales across the UK in the first seven months of the year. Steve Orr, business leader for Northern Europe at New Holland Construction said the compact end of the market has held up better than the heavy end, falling by 18% compared with 23% for the bigger equipment.

Genie in China
Genie executives broke ground at laid the corner stone of its new manufacturing facility in Changzhou, China. The facility will manufacture a range of Genie products for the local Asian market. When production begins, sometime next year, the initial focus will be on a line of Genie AWP personnel lifts, but over time a full range of aerial work platform products is expected to be produced at the new plant. When the facility is ramped up with multiple product lines, it could employ up to 400.

Doosan Infracore: Ambitious plans
DIEU, Doosan subsidiary in Europe, has signed a contract to buy the manufacturer Moxy for €55 million to enter the global heavy construction equipment market. Moxy, based in Molde on Norway’s west coast, owns the source technology for 23–46 ton-class ADTs, and has networks for 61 dealers in Europe and North America, in addition to local sales corporations and research and development centres in the US and the UK.

Link-Belt Expansion

Caterpillar Major China Expansions

New JCB Excavator Factory
JCB has begun to shift UK production of its excavator range to a new UK£ 40 million (€ 50 million) factory. The first machines to be built at the new facility - zero tailswing tracked and wheeled excavators - will come off the production line by the end of August. Rises at Palfinger
Knuckle boom crane manufacturer Palfinger Group revenue of €423.5 million (US$631 million) in the first half of 2008 was 24.3% above the €340.6 million ($508 million) in the same period of 2007. EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) rose to €59.6 million ($89 million), 16.9% greater than the €51.0 million ($76 million) of the same period of 2007.

Bobcat to redesign its telehandler range
Bobcat (USA) has completed a 24 month program to redesign its entire telehandler range comprising 12 models with maximum lifting heights of 5.2 to 17.4 m. Manitex Results
Manitex has reported first half revenues of $50 million, five percent lower than for the same period in 2007. However thanks to lower interest costs and the absence of restructuring charges, pre tax profits increased by seven percent to $836,000. The company has also seen substantial demand for its 50 ton truck crane which has helped boost its crane order book by 22 percent.

Terex Crushing & Screening Equipment in India

Hyundai Expansion Plans
Hyundai will add backhoe loaders to its range next year and is actively seeking companies to acquire for sales and product support. The company also has firm plans to add articulated dump trucks (ADTs) to its range. Flat Sales for Manitou
Despite an overall, first quarter growth in sales of 7.4%, Manitou reported “flat sales” for access platforms. Palfinger has announced first quarter results for 2008. Sales revenue at the Palfinger Group rose by 28.7%, from US$252.8 million in the first quarter of 2007 US$325.1 million. The Manitowoc crane group has reported another major rise in revenues, with sales up 29.5 percent to $884.4 million. Komatsu machine to demine anti-personnel landmines
Komatsu Ltd. and Japan Mine Action Service have signed an agreement to jointly demine anti-personnel landmines in the contaminated regions and reconstruct local communities after demining. Based on this agreement, the first reconstruction project is scheduled to be launched in Cambodia in May 2008. Komatsu demining equipment will be rented at no cost to JMAS. The company also will take part in the safe development of agricultural land, digging of wells, building of schools, and repair and building of roadways and bridges. Komatsu to build new plant in Japan

John Deere: Financial Highlights
Sales at John Deere’s (USA) construction and forestry division were down -13% for the financial year ending October 31. Cummins Inc. Record Revenues
Cummins Inc. (USA) has reported record revenues and higher earnings for the third quarter. Sales grew 20 percent to $3.37 billion, from $2.81 billion during the same period in 2006. Net income for the third quarter increased 7.6 percent to $184 million from $171 million.

Increase in Production Capacities

In January-August, import of agricultural equipment in Russia grew in by 43% and is registered at the level of $958.5 mln. The leading importer is Germany (31.8%), followed by US (17.8%).

Chinese company to open a plant in the USA
Sany Corp., a manufacturer of machines and related components for the building and construction industry, has won Chinese government approval to build a plant in the United States, potentially becoming the first Chinese machinery maker to assemble equipment in the U.S. Sany will initially invest $9 million in the U.S. plant, rising to $50 million three years later, the company"s executive president Xiang Wenbo said.

Bobcat workers are protesting
Unionized workers at the Bobcat Co. plant in North Dakota went on strike Saturday after the company and the union negotiators failed to agree on a new labor contract.
Steve Chmielewski, president of Local 566 of the United Steelworkers union, said the labor contract expired on Saturday at 7 a.m. He said workers began walking the picket line early Saturday afternoon.
Chmielewski said the union represents about 780 employees.

Terex to get rid of Tatra
Terex Corp. said Tuesday that it completed the sale of its 80.5 percent ownership stake in Czech truck maker Tatra AS to Blue River s.r.o. for roughly $26.2 million in cash.
The deal also calls for the repayment of all inter-company debt owed to Terex by Tatra of about $31.6 million. Additionally, Blue River will assume Tatra`s debt, which totals about $22 million.

Volvo CE: China capitulates!
Volvo Construction Equipment said it has signed a deal to take a 70 pct stake in Shandong Lingong Construction Machinery Co, based in east China"s Shandong province.
"This is a long term strategic investment which will put Volvo CE in a very strong position in China"s construction equipment market," Volvo CE chief executive Tony Helsham said in a statement.

Kawasaki aims at India and Russia
Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd will set up local offices in Russia and India on January 1 to expand sales in the two emerging markets.
Kawasaki aims to increase sales of construction equipment and robots in Russia, as well as railroad cars and motorcycles in India.

Volvo and Nissan merge to fight for Europe
The German wholly owned dealer network of Volvo Truck Corporation and the German subsidiary of Nissan Europe, agreed conditions to enable the distribution of three of Nissan’s light commercial vehicles through the Volvo dealer network in Germany. Manitou: success everywhere but home
Strong export growth led Manitou`s first-half 2006 net sales of €584.4 million, a 10% year-on-year rise. Operating profit rose 12.8% to €75.0 million for the period.
The French company said sales outside the EU rose 29.5%, reflecting efforts to “…increase its involvement in those markets [with] great potential.” Sales in the EU, excluding France, rose 15.3%, whilst performance in its home market remained "steady".

JCB tries to keep pace with India`s growth
Construction equipment manufacturer JCB has opened a new $28 million component factory in the Indian region of Pune to support the country`s increasing demand for JCB earthmoving equipment.

Atlas Copco to acquire Chinese compressor company
Atlas Copco Investment Co. Ltd. has signed a contract to acquire the Shanghai Bolaite Compressor Co., Ltd. The company has a turnover of approximately 14.7 mln euros and 309 employees. The acquisition is expected to close within a month.
Bolaite, headquartered in Shanghai, China, manufactures and distributes piston compressors and oil-injected screw compressors below 450 kW, and dryers. Bolaite was established in 1999.

Caterpillar will raise machinery and engine prices
Caterpillar Inc. said on Tuesday that it plans to raise prices in 2007, a fresh sign of the company"s confidence that its end markets remain strong.
In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Caterpillar said it will raise machinery prices as much as 5 percent and engine prices as much as 7 percent.
The US company said the increases were "in line with expected general economic conditions and industry factors."

USA exports: not a single step behind

Komatsu to benefit from Beijing Olympics
Komatsu Ltd., the second-biggest maker of earthmoving equipment, said China will account for 10 percent of its construction machinery sales by 2010, as economic growth and preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympics spur demand.
China accounted for 5.3 percent of Komatsu"s earth-moving equipment sales last fiscal year, totaling $591 million. The proportion rose to 7.5 percent in the three months to June, as revenue gained 62 percent to $235 million.

KAMAZ gives more reasons for pride
According to results of first seven months of 2006, Russian truck giant KAMAZ exceeds more than one-third last year’s production and sales rates of trucks. Since the beginning of the year, the company has shipped 22,430 trucks, which is 35% more than the same period of 2005.
The company exported over 1,000 vehicles a month. Totally, since early 2006, customers outside Russia purchased 5,636 trucks (29% increase compared to 2005).

China does not let Carlyle in

Caterpillar continues enjoying high demand for equipment
Heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. posted better-than-expected quarterly earnings on Friday and raised its outlook for the full year, bolstered by strong sales to the mining industry.
Second-quarter profit rose to $1.046 billion, or $1.52 a share, from $760 million, or $1.08 a share, a year earlier.
Sales rose 13 percent to $10.605 billion.
