Vail Products has announced a new product to the forestry and wood recycling industry, the Vail Severe Duty Stump Shear. The Model 4050 & 5500 stump shear is a patented dual pivot design, vastly superior to the scissor shears currently used in the forestry, land clearing and wood waste recycling industries. The Vail stump shear can pull tree stumps from the ground and split stumps prior to grinding. Downsizing stumps and wood debris prior to grinding will increase the efficiency of any grinder. In addition to speeding up the process of grinding, splitting stumps allows you to remove “uncrushables” from the wood debris before damaging the grinder.
The Model 5500 is designed for excavators in the 55,000 to 100,000 lb size range. With a 9’8” mouth opening and 4’6” throat, stump splitting and wood debris downsizing is no problem. High-strength steel with welded construction makes this stump shear the toughest in the industry. The high wear parts (cutting edges and all the bushings) are replaceable for many years of service.
VAIL Products (a division of Hammersmith Mfg. & Sales Inc.) is the leading manufacturer of aftermarket Severe Duty Ripper Systems. This includes a full line of hydraulically operated, rear-mounted parallel rippers for crawler dozers and loaders; ripper/scarifiers (front, center, rear) for motor graders; pivotal backup rippers for dozers and loaders; and the Rip-N-Pin, a patented, rear-mounted bucket attachment with a pivotal shank design that adds ripper versatility to backhoe and excavator buckets without the need for changeover.
