South Africa: transportation strike affects cargo turnover The strike by members of four Transnet trade unions enters its forth day. The bid by Transnet and four striking unions to settle a damaging strike which began at SA"s busiest ports of Durban and Richards Bay yesterday failed to break the deadlock, raising fears that a prolonged strike could result in bottlenecks at the ports.

Transnet downplayed the effect of the strike by railway and dock workers, saying the majority of its operations were "proceeding normally".
