Vindskip ship concept
Norwegian designers from Lade AS have developed a concept of cargo container ship Vindskip, which will move using ocean wind power. Vindskip fuel savings will reach up to 60% and emissions level will be reduced by 80%.
According to Lade AS specialists the creation of such the vessel was inspired by the Aerospace Industry, the body of the Vindskip is designed as a symmetrical airfoil. The airfoil helps harnesses a force akin to aerodynamic lift, pulling the ship along.
A computer navigation system, using the weather forecast will be able plot an optimal course. In addition to wind Vindskip will use electric motors with a liquefied natural gas-powered electrical generator.
