The opening of Bauma 2007 in Munich on April 23, saw a number of attendees recognised for their forward thinking in the construction sector.
Head associations representing the German construction industry hosted a ceremony to honour the winners of the Bauma Innovation Prize.
Forty-six companies submitted 72 applications for the prize, which was awarded for the eighth time, with 15 finalists chosen.
The award was offered for the first time in five different categories. The award-winning innovations were:
- The Passsteinpresse PSP – a press for variable element sizes – by Lasco Umformtechnik GmbH, Coburg/Germany, which won in the category of machinery;
- The concrete end hose by Putzmeister AG, Aichtal/Germany, which won in the category of machinery components;
- The Taiwan High Speed Railway project – a large-scale bridge construction – by Bilfinger Berger AG, Wiesbaden/Germany; and the world record in high-rise concrete pumping by Putzmeister AG, Aichtal/Germany, which both won in the category of construction work and processes;
- The image-based rating procedures for fair faced concrete, developed by Dresden University of Technology, which won in the category of research results; and
- The new large wheel loader generation by Liebherrr Bischofshofen GmbH, Austria, which won in the category of design.
Judges recognised the sustainability and high practical use of the innovations, the efficiency and increase in productivity made possible by the innovations, and aspects such as being environmentally friendly and making the workplace safer and operator friendly.
Dr Christof Kemman from the German Engineering Federation said organisers aimed to not only honour the companies` commitment to innovative developments but also to make the public aware of what they had already achieved.
