Caterpillar Work Tools has launched three new models in its B Series scrap sheer line-up with the introduction of the 1,925 kg (4,235 lb) S320B, 2,745 kg (6,039 lb) S325B and 4,050 kg (8,910 lb) S340B to join the previously released S365B and S385B models. The S320B is intended for use of carriers weighing from 10-25 tonnes, with the S325B and S340B suitable for 15-35 and 25-60 tonne machines, respectively. The S320B offers a force of 980 kN at the tip, while the larger S365B and S385B provide 1,402 kN and 1,716 kN respectively.
The design of the shear optimises performance – the straight lower jaw works with the apex of the upper jaw, compressing and flattening steel before the cut. The straight lower jaw maximizes shear force and creates a more efficient cut. A new housing design is intended to provide improved protection of shear components. The cutting edge design improves cylinder protection and removes the need for a cylinder guard through extension of the housing to cover the cylinder rod. A new design of hub is also better protected from damage.
